Backhand

How to Instruct Technique

This last part of the course looks at how to teach throwing and putting for beginners. These short videos are produced by the Finnish Disc Golf Association and are in Finnish, but the videos speak mostly for themselves, and we have included the most important points here.

Backhand grip

• The disc must be firmly and completely against the forehand
• The thumb is not too central or too close to the edge (approx. 2-3 cm from the edge)
• The fingers in a natural position on rim and bottom of the disc

Stand still backhand

• Throwing hand side towards the throwing direction
• The toes of the back foot and the heel of the front foot form a line towards the throwing direction
• Athletic position
• The throwing arm is at about chest height
• The elbow is outside and forms the power pocket

Backhand with run-up

• The essential steps are the last three steps
• Acceleration is practiced in reverse order
  • First we practice the last step (3rd step)
  • Next, a cross step is added (2nd step)
  • And finally, the first step
• Throwing hand side towards the throwing direction
• The feet are approx. 90 degrees from the throwing direction
