Mission Voyager

We are all astronauts floating in space. Our spaceship Voyager is at a space station and wants to return to Earth. But it cannot start because parts are missing. So we, the experts, must bring missing components (discs) to the space station as quickly as possible. Therefore we need to follow a defined path to travel through space.

Supplies

  • warning tape, cones, signs or other ways of marking a path
  • paper and pencil to draw the course to explain it to the participants
  • one disc per player

Preparations

  • Plan a course between 200 m and 1000 m long in varying terrain, around trees, bushes, goals etc.
  • Mark a start and goal lines (can be the same also).

The Rules

  1. Players must move from start to finish as quickly as possible with their disc.
  2. You may not run with a disc. The disc can only move by flying. (i.e. throw, run, pick up and immediately throw again…)
  3. The number of throws doesn’t matter, only the speed counts.
  4. Only the disc has to follow the specified course–the player is free to move along any path.
  5. 1 disc per player, with 4-6 players starting at the same time, each player plays for themselves.

Variations

  • Group competition: 1 disc for small teams of 2-3 players. The team starts together, but can then position themselves cleverly to minimize walking distances. A player may never throw twice in a row. Small groups start approx. 1 minute apart. Time can be measured with a stopwatch or smartphone so groups can compare.
