Closest To Pin

Closest to the Pin (CTP) is a golf term which in disc golf means “the disc thrown closest to the basket”. In competitions, for example, there can be a special prize on one fairway for the player whose opening throw is CTP. This game practices getting the disc close to a target spot.

Supplies

  • Cones
  • Three discs per player
  • 1 other marking item per player (minis, sticks, etc., to mark the CTP for each target cone)

Preparations

  1. Draw a line at the end of the field as the boundary of the throwing area
  2. Give each player one cone as a target, and have them place that target anywhere they want within the throwing area.

Rules

  1. Everyone throws e.g. 3 discs from the throwing area, aiming at one of the targets. The players can spread out and throw at the same time.
  2. Everyone gets to choose which of the targets to aim for with each throw.
  3. After the round is over, go to collect the discs. Whoever threw the closest to each goal can place a CTP mark (e.g. stick) at his/her disc.
  4. In the next round, these CTP marks are moved to a new position if someone has gotten a disc closer to a goal.

Notes

  • In this exercise, there will be a lot of repetitions, as the players don’t have to wait for their turn to throw.
  • As the juniors get to define the places of the goals themselves, everyone will have suitably challenging goals to aim for.
